I did it! I managed to blog every single day for one whole month. I can now scratch one more thing off my 101 things in 1001 list! It was an awesome adventure and certainly kept me on my toes. Since I was also able to keep up with so many posts I now won’t need to blog summer sessions all the way into February! I will still try and make it a point to continue blogging fairly often so that my faithful readers won’t desert me.

September is coming up and already looks like it will be one crazy month for Melissa Johnston Photography. I might not be blogging every day but I will be sure to work extra hard on some finishing touches for the Wedding Show that will be taking place at Lansdowne Park on September 11th and 12th. Be sure to check that out and while you’re at it, stop by my booth to say hello!

What’s a post without a picture as I always say? Here’s one I recently took at the Ottawa Ex just last week. This fair brings back so many childhood memories and I always try and make it out every year, even if it’s just to grab a candy apple…

Don’t go too far, another gorgeous wedding post coming up soon!

The Real Me and Nothing But

There’s something really cool in the works for Melissa Johnston Photography. Lots will change around here but for the better. I am bursting at the seams with excitement and trying not to divulge what it is at the moment so instead I have decided to share something that is related to it. Just a piece of the puzzle.

A few months ago I met Sylvain and Caroline at a meet and greet for all kinds of wedding related businesses. I was impressed by the moment we shook hands at how easy going they both were. We introduced, exchanged cards and off we went. That same night I checked out their site right away and wasn’t disappointed. It was just a coincidence that I had been thinking about possibly getting a video done for my ‘About me’ section on the blog…I sent an email off to Sylvain to see if he’d be up to what I had in mind. I was delighted by the response yet again so we fixed a date to make my vision a reality!

I wanted something that would portray the real me and nothing but. I wanted viewers and potential clients to learn who I was in just under 2 minutes when they visited my site. This way they weren’t just familiar with my work but also with the person behind it all. I have to say that Sylvain and Caroline did just that and above. They really understood who I truly was and were able to captured it on camera. A million thank yous go out to Sylvain and Caroline at Reno Video Productions.

Not only did they do such an amazing job, but they made me feel at ease during the whole taping. Oh! I should also mention that all of this was done in +40 weather and not once did they complain. I recommend Reno Video Productions for all video needs :)

The Kelly Moore bag

I was ecstatic when the little paper appeared on my front door one afternoon, a notice that I had a parcel waiting for me at the post office. As soon as I got the package in my hands, I quickly ripped open the box to find my new found love – the Kelly Moore bag. It’s amazing, it even smells good. I cant even explain to you how it has turned my life around! This practical yet fashionable camera/lens bag never leaves my side at shoots and weddings and is now my new favorite accessory. If you’re a photographer, be sure to check these fancy things out. You won’t be disappointed!

Trip out East

For my holiday week, I decided to take a long road trip out East. There wasn’t much planned before I set out on my adventure, just a few maps a tent and my camera. I had heard such great things about the East Coast and can now completely agree with those who have confessed what a beautiful place it really is. Driving through the maritimes made me realize that our country truly is magnificent. Seeing the huge rockies out West in May to seeing the gorgeous cliffs rising from the ocean in the East – I can’t help but be thankful for such a great home, our Country, Canada.

And a few pictures of me using my SX-70

P.s. My new goal in life is to be able to retire and move to P.E.I ;) A girl can dream…

Trip out West

Recently, I went out to Calgary, Alberta (mainly Banff) to shoot a very sweet engagement session and those images will be up on the blog very shortly. But first, I thought I would share some photos I took that represent my view on the beauty from out West.

This short lived trip really made me realize how gorgeous our country really is. It made me appreciate that beauty can simply be found at home and I will definitely be going back very soon!

The Rockies really were majestic…

Castle mountain:

The Hoodoos:

This next shot was my very favourite and it was taken at the end of my trip, while driving quite a distance to the airport. I’ve always wanted to see wild horses and finally got to see them! This field was full of them but this one guy was the most photogenic. Due to his curiosity, I was able to snap a few great pictures of him.

This trip also allowed me to scratch a few things off my ‘100 things in 1001 days‘ list!
